1. Failed Hard Drives and RAID If you've used computers for more than a few years, you know that you don't wonder IF a hard drive will fail - you wonder WHEN. It just happened to me - again. But this time it looks like the results will be pretty painless. The reasons? * RAID Level 1 * Superb Hard Drive manufacturer warranty support

4. Converting from a Workgroup to a Domain

For a particular user on a particular computer, all programs installed for all users will still be available whether they log into their computer or the domain. You will have to migrate all other user specific settings either manually or use an automated tool.

Both of which are incomplete so expect to have to manually migrate some application specific settings and data for each user. At a minimum, log into the old local account and migrate My Documents, Desktop, Favorites, and perhaps e-mail such as the Outlook .PST or Outlook Express .DBX files.

5. RAID

RAID is the acronym for a Redundant Array of Independent Drives. RAID specifies several "levels," 0, 1, etc. Different levels provide different options. One level allows you to combine multiple smaller drives into one, huge volume. Another level offers tremendous performance boosts by "striping" data across multiple drives such that reads and writes are split across the drives. If one drive fails, the other takes over until the bad drive is replaced. Once replaced, the RAID subsystem automatically restores the mirror.

paradox 5 compatibility
I run a small collection agency out of my home. I am using Paradox 5 (for the past 10 years!). I don't know any programming code but have gotten along just fine entering data into forms, printing letters and remittance reports to my clients. My computer is an old Pentium 75mhz, running windows 95 (a real horse). At some point my computer or my deskjet 722 will probably die (and it seems impossible to find a printer to run on my old system). Does anyone know if Paradox 5 will run on a newer computer operating Windows XP? I sure hope so. If not, I'm afraid that I'll lose all of my data. Thanks for your help. God Bless.

To get Paradox 5 running correctly on Win2000, I needed to set the compatability mode to NT4SP5. I believe it's the same for XP. Other than that, no issues.

Yeah, it probably was a bit high even for back in 2000. We ended up cancelling the project because it was cost prohibitive.

Analysis required
I am afraid there is more, can anyone explain the difference between these two lines of code as I would like to know what's going on! This originally started as the word "Month" appeared to be some type of reserved word and threw up error messages - as it stands neither example will work., , The first line is as supplied by ScottW as an example and will only produce a blank grid unless, strangely, the word "Months" is entered in Edit1 when it will produce all the records in the Months field., , The second line will correctly produce a list of the months appropriate to what was entered., , Query1.SQL.Add ('WHERE' + QuotedStr('Months')+ ' =' + QuotedStr(Edit1.Text)); , , Query1.SQL.Add ('WHERE' + ('Months')+ ' =' + QuotedStr(Edit1.Text));, , I would like to understand what's happening.

Re: SQL Monitor, , Sorry about that. It us on the Database menu item. But I think it is only there for Enterprise version of Delphi.
