AMD Quad Core Server Ver. Intel Quad Core Server
I have been looking up information about Intel and AMD's quad core processors. I am about to build 2 new servers for our company, I have reviewed many benchmarks and still cannot decide on which one would be best to buy. What are your opinions? Maybe you have thought of something I did not. Oh and ill be buying 2 quad core cpus and will have windows server 2008 64 bit OS. The servers will have about 50 or so processors (dataentry employees) connecting to them throughout the work day and the server will be used to store main data files. Post your ideas and thoughts!

Xcopy/robocopy most efficient way to trans. files?
The company i work for uses xcopy to copy our server files and folders to a backup folder every night, this process takes anywhere from 45 mins to 1hr 20 mins, other than trying robocopy or xcopy does anyone have a better more efficient ( faster ) idea or way that they do things to copy large tables/files/folders to a backup folder? Please post your ideas or what you do if it is different.

Windows Server '03 settings to Windows Server '08?
Recently bought 2 new servers with Windows Server 2008 on them. Was curious if anyone has ever heard of or knows if it is possible to do a MS backup or some other program on a Windows Server 2003 server and import the settings on to a newer Windows Server 2008 server. Currently want to replace the old servers with the new ones, but was hoping all of our server settings could be imported to the new servers, instead of having to set everything up all over again. Also the old servers will be used still but only as an emergency backup incase something happens to the new server. Anyone have some input on this ? Thanks! -David

It can be done, what edition of 2003 are you using? what edition of 2008 are you using? Have you considered upgrading your 2003 servers to 2008? EDIT: OK, I just realized how old this thread was...lol.

Question: How to get a list of open tables?
Is there a way to use enumOpenDatabases() or enumDatabaseTables() to get a list of all databases that I currently have opened? Or better yet to get a list of what tables other users ( enumusers() ) have open? I have been trying to figure out a way to write this but so far no luck. Any suggestions out there ?

Can Paradox convert .bmp to .jpg?
Hello everyone, I have a question! I have created a form that takes pictures from a directory and places the pictures into a table, it is to show users in the office pictures that are stored in various places on the network that are sorted by name or type, etc. I have programmed the form to do all what I need it to do except one part, I have made a button that when pressed it exports the image from the table and stores it to a location on that users computer. Currently all the pictures are .bmp files, I have been trying to research and find out if there is code that can be written to convert a .bmp file to another filetype such as .jpg. If I was able to do this I would then make a dropdown box that allows the user to choose whether or not to export the image as a .bmp or a jpg. Can paradox convert images from one file type to another file type? If so, can someone write out a small example for me please? Thank you very much ! David

Hi David, Yes you can do this but not with ObjectPAL alone. The writeToFile() method only writes out bitmaps (.BMP) even when you specify a .jpg extension. So, no, you can't do this with ObjectPAL alone. You'll have to use a DLL and have the DLL convert the file for you. For example, try the IJL10.DLL on the following page: http://www.thevbzone.com/d_DLL.htm

?Paradox tables get larger than2 gigs with 64-bit?
Anyone here know of a way or know if corel has a fix to get paradox tables to get larger than 2gig? Just bought a few new computers for the office, all 64-bit and was hoping i could get my paradox tables to be able to grow larger than 2 gigs ( some of my tables are nearing 2 gigs ) I currently have vista installed, but on the new servers i ordered they will have windows server 2008. I fooled around with some of my larger tables on me new vista machines trying to make my tables get over 2 gigs, once it reaches 2 gigs, it just says table is full, it doesnt break or anything like that just says table is full and will not save any new data i put into it. anyone shed some light on this topic for me ? Thanks guys. David

Steal someones php code or settings?
Is there a way to download a php file from a website? I want to make sure my php files and settings are secure so no one can get into my sql database or see my password information or see any of my php code. What are some secure methods i can do to make sure no one can steal my php code or settings ? The company i work for recently created custom php code that our customers will go to our site and type in personal information and order certain products, i just want to make sure there is no way a person can try to access our files ( we have customers personal information on our server ) since all the files will be on our server... Anyone have more input on this ?

Change alias path with code, not yourself?
Is it possible to change an alias' path using code if your report/form/table cannot find the location it is looking for ? That sounds confusing i will give an example of my question. your dataentry department works in an alias called "todayswork", if for some reason there was a problem with the alias' path ( whether it be a network problem or etc. ) if paradox cannot find that path, is there a way to use code to tell paradox to change the alias path of "todayswork" to another path, and make your dataentry forms/reports work from that new path/alias without having to configure anything yourself? Or would it be better to use code to tell paradox to use a different alias rather than change your alias' path? IF that were the better thing to do how would you do that also? Any thoughts or ideas on this matter will be much appreciated, thanks David.

Can you set mapdrives for "All Users"?
Does anyone know if it is possible in Windows XP to set a mapdrive for " All users " or something like that, because every time we have a new employee come in the office i have to set there user info on the server, than go to the computer their working on and log into the network as them, once the computer is loaded up i have to set all the mapdrive so they can begin working with our network, also if they move  to a different computer i have to repeat these steps, same problem for printers too...

Every programmer you talk to will have a different opinion as to which language and tool you should use to do this task. ASP and PHP are easy to learn scripting languages. You'll have to use a Paradox ODBC driver to access your Paradox data. Also, you'll have to secure your server properly through a firewall so only the data you wish to surface on the web is accessible.

RE: Database updated by customer thru site??
I have been coding in paradox only for over 2 years. I can create webpages with Adobe Flash, can use dreamweave, adobe photoshop etc etc, but programming wise have only used paradox, i can read some vb and asp code just because i have seen it so much but i cannot write it, programing wise im strickly a paradox geek.... haha  When i have made websites and etc in the past i have never had to connect the site to a database and " swap " data back and forth, so i am wanting to learn.

Need help creating a voting poll on website.
I have to create a "Voting" poll on the front page of my homepage. Also want to create something that will store the votes that are selected. Maybe even store what question i was asking and the number of votes for the answers associated with that question. I do not have very much experience with html/php/etc. I have seen alot of websites that you can make a voting poll and put their code in your website but in some way it links their website to your website and i dont like that, so i was wondering if anyone could possibly lead me in the right direction of making my own. I use Dreamweave for my html editing needs...  Any help is appreciated, thanks! -David

Hi David, Yes, I don't like the ones that use another website either. So that means you need to install one of the ones that runs on your website to a DB on your website. PHP and MySQL are very common so I put a link to the following page that lists out a bunch of em: http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Polls_and_Voting/more9.html
